Background
The customer is a premier hospitality property in Houston. Managing hundreds of guest rooms, extensive banquet events, and daily restaurant buffets, the facility produces massive amounts of heavy, wet prep waste that must be managed completely out of sight.
The challenge
Back-of-house equipment strain
Heavy, wet food scraps from banquet and buffet operations place immense mechanical strain on the hotel's standard trash compactors. The corrosive nature of this liquid waste frequently damages mechanical seals and hydraulic systems.
Odor isolation needs
When heavy organics sit in traditional dumpsters in the Texas heat, the resulting odor and pest presence threaten to bleed into guest-facing areas, risking the hotel's premium reputation.
The data gap
Traditional haulers do not provide the pound-for-pound verification needed for corporate hospitality ESG disclosures.
Moonshot's response
Mechanical preservation
By extracting the corrosive, heavy liquids and food waste into Moonshot's specialized drums, the hotel drastically reduced the mechanical strain and repair costs on their central waste equipment.
Clinical-grade sanitation
Implemented the clean drum swap to ensure the high-traffic loading dock remained free of pests, odors, and bio-hazards, perfectly isolating the organic decay from hotel grounds.
Investment-grade tracking
Deployed the Diversion Dashboard to track every pound in real time, transforming the circular loop into a documented, attributable ESG system.
Results
Since program launch, the property has successfully achieved 53,460 pounds in total waste diverted -- equivalent to 2,700 planted trees and 41,100 miles undriven. By preserving BOH equipment and isolating odors, they slashed exposure to volatile repair and landfill fees while generating pristine ESG reporting data.
