Moonshot home composting subscribers will now be served by Happy Earth

As of Monday, February 2, 2026, Happy Earth of Houston will be the composting provider for Houston-area homes that had been serviced by Moonshot Compost. 

We want to thank all our residential Houston customers for trusting us to be your partner in composting. While we will miss you, we know that we are leaving you in good hands. Happy Earth founder Jesse Stowers has been a friend and collaborator with us since launching the business in Houston in 2020, the same year we launched Moonshot. 

We are confident that Happy Earth will provide you with excellent service, and we are thrilled that they will continue leading a culture change around residential food waste in Houston.

Transition FAQs

We know you may have questions about the transition. Please refer to the FAQs below for more information.

  • Absolutely not. We will continue offering commercial services in Houston (and Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Waco) and will continue offering our municipal-sponsored residential drop-off programs in Plano and Frisco.

  • Nothing will change about your ongoing subscriptions. Your payments are processed through Stripe with Moonshot, and they will continue to be processed by Stripe after the transition. Moonshot does not have a record of your credit card data, and neither will Happy Earth.

  • For residential pick-up subscribers, beginning with your collection during the week of Monday, February 2nd, Happy Earth will collect your food waste in the Moonshot bins and replace it with a Happy Earth bucket. For any subscribers with more than one bin, they will match the count. 

    For residential drop-off subscribers, beginning the week of Monday, February 2nd, Happy Earth will replace the Moonshot bins with their own collection containers.

    You may keep your kitchen caddy and continue to use it for your Happy Earth service.

  • Perhaps. Further communication from Happy Earth will confirm your new collection day, beginning the week of February 2nd.

  • Yes, Happy Earth will continue this service.

  • We understand: data matters. We are transferring your historical diversion totals to Happy Earth, and your data will be available in your Happy Earth account page.

  • Happy Earth will email and text you information about how to log into your new account page.
